The court chose a preventive measure against the former football player of the Russian national team Roman Shirokov, who beat a referee during a match of amateur teams. The player told TASS about this.
The athlete said that he is under recognizance not to leave. Shirokov also added that he will comment on what happened after “everything is over.”
It became known about Shirokov's attack on referee Nikita Danchenkov during the match on August 10. He hit the referee several times. Later, the footballer apologized to Danchenkov on Instagram, who went to the police. A case was initiated against the athlete under article 115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Intentional infliction of minor harm to health”).
Shirokov is known for his performances for Zenit, Spartak and Krasnodar. He has three titles of the champion of Russia, as well as a victory in the UEFA Cup. In addition, the midfielder won bronze at the 2008 European Championship as part of the Russian national team. After completing his career, he became an expert on Match TV, but was removed from broadcasts in connection with the incident.
