At least 17 people were killed and more than 700 injured in an earthquake in the Turkish province of Izmir. This became known from the statement of the country's emergency management department, TASS reports.
“The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has increased to 17, and the number of those injured to 709,” the statement said. Previously reported 12 casualties and 522 injured.
According to the Russian embassy, cited by RIA Novosti, no information has yet been received about the injured Russians.
On the afternoon of October 30, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 hit the Aegean Sea. As a result, at least ten houses in Izmir were destroyed: buildings in the Bayrakli district of Izmir were damaged. Several houses were damaged, one building was completely destroyed. The earthquake affected the nearest islands of Greece. Tremors with a magnitude of 6.9 were recorded there.
