In total, 580 people were found to have side effects from the vaccine, mainly fever, nausea and headache. However, seven people were hospitalized with serious complications, two of them died. The deaths of one of them are most likely unrelated to the vaccine, authorities said. The cause of death of the other is being established.
One of the victims – a hospital employee in the Indian city of Moradabad, he died the day after vaccination. The relatives of the deceased confirmed that the man felt unwell even before the vaccination.
India's nationwide coronavirus vaccination campaign began on January 16. More than 224,000 people were vaccinated in two days, according to representatives of the Ministry of Health. In total, 30 million people should receive the vaccine.
