It became known about the failure of the plan of the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rene Fasel to hold the matches of the 2021 World Cup in St. Petersburg instead of Minsk. Helsingin Sanomat reports.

According to the source, the idea was to exchange matches: St. Petersburg was to host the 2021 World Cup, and Minsk would receive the 2023 World Championship, which was to be held in St. Petersburg. Fasel's secret plan failed because of the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), according to which Russia was banned from hosting major international tournaments until 2022.
