The attacker in Vienna had a criminal record. The new details of the terrorist's personality became known from the head of the Austrian Interior Ministry, Karl Nehammer, quoted by Reuters.
He stressed that the offender was convicted of trying to join the terrorist group Islamic State (IS, banned in the Russian Federation). Then he was sentenced to 22 years in prison, but released ahead of schedule.
In addition, the terrorist was armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a rifle and a machete. It is noted that the man had dual citizenship: Austria and North Macedonia.
That one of the shooters in Vienna was sympathetic to IS, it became known earlier on November 3. He was born and raised in Vienna, but he has Albanian roots: the parents of the terrorist are from North Macedonia.
On the evening of 2 November, several armed men opened fire in six different parts of Vienna. The first shots were fired at 20:00 local time (22:00 Moscow time) at a synagogue in the center of the capital. The security forces managed to shoot one of the attackers. The Austrian Interior Ministry proceeds from the fact that the incident was a terrorist attack. At least five people were killed.
