It became known about the consent of the EU countries to impose sanctions against Lukashenka

Alexander Lukashenko

The ambassadors of the EU countries have come to an agreement on the introduction of sanctions against the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and 14 other citizens of this country. This consent became known to the journalist of Radio Free Europe, Ricard Jozwiak, he wrote on Twitter.

“The ambassadors of the European Union on Wednesday [November 4] will give the green light to the asset freeze and visa bans for Lukashenka and 14 other Belarusians. Will be approved on November 6, ”the reporter said.

In early October, the leaders of the EU countries imposed sanctions on Belarusian officials who, in their opinion, were involved in electoral fraud and human rights violations. Then Lukashenko was not included in the sanctions list. Shortly thereafter, Minsk announced that it was introducing retaliatory measures.

Protests in Belarus have been going on for almost three months. Since October 26, there has been a surge in their activity after the opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya declared a general strike. The largest enterprises of the republic are faced with production problems. In addition, the action was actively supported by students, in connection with which Lukashenka separately demanded to start deductions. The demands of the disaffected have not changed: the resignation of the current leadership of the country, the release of the detainees and the end of violence by the security forces. The President believes that the protests were paid for by the West, that the actions of the riot police during the harsh dispersal of rallies are completely legitimate, and reports of torture of prisoners are fakes.
