Tatyana Menshikova, vice-president of the St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation, recalled how Evgeni Plushenko was bullied in the Russian national team in the 1990s. She is quoted by Fontanka.

Menshikova recalled that it became known about the bullying of the athlete from his mother. “Nothing could be done with that skater, there were too many titles. I had to slap through others, ”she concluded.
In September, Plushenko's son Alexander, known as the Gnome Gnomych, speculated about the difficulties his father faced as a child. He expressed sympathy for his father, who, according to him, had to collect bottles for the money for “broth and bread.”
