In Ireland, cases of the birth of dead children are being investigated due to the coronavirus carried by a woman in childbirth. This was reported by the Euronews TV channel.
The country's deputy chief physician, Ronan Glynn, said that four such cases are currently known. It is clarified that all four women tested positive for coronavirus, after which they had dead children. The cause of their death was a placental infection, presumably caused by a coronavirus – doctors called the disease Covid placentis.
In early March, it was reported that Swedish scientists first found a mutated form of coronavirus in a newborn baby whose mother was sick with COVID-19. According to scientists, this is the first time a case of coronavirus mutation has been recorded during its transmission from a mother to an unborn fetus.
Earlier, the head of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge said that the coronavirus pandemic will last all 2021, but it can be expected to end by early 2022. He warned that this does not mean the complete disappearance of the virus.
