A conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about what happened to Alexei Navalny angered French President Emmanuel Macron. This became known to Business Insider from intelligence sources.
They argue that the conversation seriously undermined the already strained relations between Moscow and the European Union. In addition, during the conversation, the pride of the French leader was allegedly hurt.
“Macron has a huge ego, he believes that he cannot speak his teeth. He expected to be told that [the incident with Navalny] was an internal affair, possibly an illegal operation by some small fry from Chechnya, which is already wanted, ”said a French security source. For this reason, after the conversation, the French leader became angry.
Business Insider sources fear that despite his loyalty to Putin, Macron was still unsatisfied with the conversation.
The conversation between the presidents took place on September 14. The newspaper Le Monde later claimed that during the conversation, Putin spoke of Navalny with contempt and even called him “a simple Internet troublemaker.” In addition, the Russian president, according to Le Monde, stressed that French and German experts do not provide their data to Russian colleagues, which, in turn, complicates the investigation by Moscow.
Alexei Navalny became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow, the plane was landed in Omsk. There he fell into a coma, a few days later from the Omsk hospital he was transported to the Berlin clinic “Charite”. European toxicologists said that substances from the Novichok group were found in Navalny's body. His tracks were found on a bottle from under water, which his relatives took from the room of the Tomsk hotel. In September, Navalny was brought out of a coma and discharged from the Charite.
