Under pressure, Khan will temporarily leave his post as ICC prosecutor.

The governing body of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has initiated an external investigation into Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan due to alleged sexual harassment. An internal document circulated among the court's member states calls on Khan to temporarily step aside from his duties until the investigation is completed.

Reuters reports this.

Khan categorically denies the allegations and considers them part of a disinformation campaign against his office. He has asked the ICC's internal body to investigate these facts, but the pressure on him is growing. In response, the ICC Assembly of States Parties agreed to launch an external investigation at a meeting on November 7.

The document also notes that the ICC bodies should begin an investigation at the moment the first allegations become known. According to sources, the alleged victim does not believe in the independence of the internal body of the court, since its new chairman is a former employee of Khan.

Karim Khan, 54, became the chief prosecutor of the ISS in 2021. He previously worked as an adviser to the UN on the fight against ISIS in Iraq and has significant experience in international law.

Recall that the chief prosecutor of the ISS Karim Khan stated that it is too early to be disappointed in international law. He also said that an arrest warrant for orders to beat civilians was issued for a Russian Air Force general.
