Israeli scientists have found out why women love warmth and men love cold
Israeli scientists have conducted a study and found out why women and female animals love warmth, and men and males love cold. The work of specialists from Tel Aviv University is described in an article published in the journal Global Ecology and Biogeography.
In the course of the study, experts analyzed several works on the distribution of animals in various territories. In addition, they studied information over 40 years about 11 thousand birds and bats in 130 locations in Israel. These animals spend all the time in flight, they are very mobile, therefore the spatial separation between the sexes among them is especially pronounced.
As a result, the analysis showed that males prefer a lower temperature than females. This preference leads to territorial separation of the sexes at certain times during the breeding cycle when males and females are not needed for each other.
Moreover, in migratory birds, males overwintered in colder regions than females. If we talk about mammals, then even in those species that live in pairs all their lives, females preferred sunlight, and males spent time in the shade.
According to scientists, these differences have evolutionary explanations. Thus, the separation between males and females reduces competition for resources in the environment, and also keeps aggressive males at a distance that can harm offspring. In addition, many females must protect their offspring at a stage when babies are not yet able to independently regulate body temperature. Therefore, it is safer to be warm.
The authors of the work believe that people are no exception. The love of women for a higher temperature is due to evolution. It is needed to periodically separate partners.
