Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid summed up the results of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia, which the countries celebrated this year. On the occasion of the anniversary, he gave an interview to Kommersant, in which he spoke about the connection between the Jewish and Russian people.
The minister noted that the Jewish and Russian peoples united during the Second World War.
“The ties between the Jewish people and the Russian people go back centuries. Jews have lived in Russia for centuries, the Russian Empire was the cradle of modern Zionism, and Jews influenced and influenced Russian culture at the same time. And, of course, the Jewish and Russian peoples united in the historical struggle for the fate of mankind during the Second World War, ”Lapid emphasized.
He added that today Israel and Russia are strengthening ties in different areas. “We are interested in further developing cooperation in the field of medicine, agriculture and infrastructure projects. In the year of celebrating the 30th anniversary since the restoration of diplomatic relations, we have made even more progress in terms of interstate cooperation, as well as business ties, ”the Foreign Minister assured.
On December 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin phoned his Israeli counterpart Yitzhak Herzog. During the telephone conversation, the heads of state discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular in the humanitarian sphere. Particular attention was paid to the general task of preserving the historical truth about the Second World War.
