The Israeli Air Force attacked Evin Prison in Tehran, where political prisoners are held.
On Sunday night, Israel launched a powerful airstrike on targets in the Iranian capital, in particular, the entrances to Evin prison, where political prisoners are held, were hit.
This was stated by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who called the attack “a blow of unprecedented force.”
Video footage of the incident, which quickly went viral on social media, shows the moment the explosion occurred at the main entrance to the prison. Given the nature of the strike, Israeli sources suggest that it may have been intended as a “signal” to give victims of the regime’s repression a chance to escape.
Iranian state television confirmed the strike on Evin.
The notorious prison in northern Tehran has long been known to the world as a place for holding political prisoners, brutal torture and executions for opposing the ruling government. Nobel laureates Shirin Ebadi and Narges Mohammadi were once held there.
Israeli journalist Amit Segal on the social network X (Twitter) called the explosion in Evin a sign of a new phase of confrontation:
“This strike is an escalation because it now targets not only Iranian military targets but also Iranian institutions that oppress their own people and do not directly affect Israel. It seems Israel will toy with the idea of regime change.”
Let us recall that earlier the National Security and Defense Council commented on the Israeli and US strikes on Iran.
