Israel was preparing a first strike on Iran according to the Game of Thrones scenario – media

The Israeli military carried out the Game of Thrones-inspired “Red Wedding” operation, killing key Iranian generals and foiling a missile attack on Tel Aviv.

IDF General Staff

Israeli military and intelligence officials had been secretly preparing an operation that would strike at the heart of the Iranian military command since the fall of 2024. The planning began with a ten-hour closed-door meeting in a hotel, where the heads of the army and intelligence services outlined the main objectives: to neutralize Iran's air defenses, reduce its missile potential, and strike at its nuclear program.

This was reported by the publication BILD.

One of the key decisions was to conduct a lightning operation to eliminate the top leadership of the Iranian army. The task was very difficult – the strikes had to be carried out synchronously, at a distance of more than 1,500 km, without warning and with an immediate effect. The goal was to deprive Iran of the ability to respond quickly.

The operation was codenamed “Red Wedding” – a reference to the brutal scene in the TV series “Game of Thrones” where the guests at a wedding were killed during a sudden betrayal. This is exactly how, unexpectedly and brutally, the Iranian generals were supposed to die.

On the night of June 13, the plan was implemented. Israeli fighters attacked facilities where key figures in Iran's military hierarchy were located – the Chief of the General Staff, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the head of the emergency command were killed. According to Walla, some of them were killed in their sleep. The bunker where representatives of the Iranian Air Force command had gathered was also subsequently destroyed.

The publication quotes a source who described the first minutes after the strike:

“When the Revolutionary Guard and the army tried to gather information and give orders for a response, there was no one left who could make a decision.”

According to Walla, it was this destruction of the command staff that thwarted Iran's original plan to launch about a thousand ballistic missiles at Israel in the event of war. Instead of an immediate strike, Tehran spent almost the entire day organizing a response, which turned out to be significantly weaker.

The Israeli operation paralyzed Iran's military leadership; the regime has not yet been able to fully recover from the blow.

Let us recall that we previously wrote that as a result of an Israeli strike on Iran on the night of June 13, 2025 , the Chairman of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps , Iranian General Hossein Salami, was killed.

In addition, it was reported that the Israel Defense Forces carried out a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear program .
