Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdel Latif al-Zayani signed a reconciliation agreement in the presence of US President Donald Trump. Reported by Reuters.
According to the agreements concluded in the White House, Israel will suspend the extension of sovereignty to Jewish settlements in the West Bank. In a joint statement, the countries announced that the move would allow further progress towards peace throughout the Middle East.
Earlier, Trump said that five or six more countries could sign agreements with Israel to normalize relations. At the same time, the American leader did not name specific states. According to The Jerusalem Post, these may include Oman and Saudi Arabia. Experts believe that this process is associated with the strengthening of Iran, which is seen as a threat to most of its neighbors in the Middle East.
On September 11, it became known that Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the second time in recent years. One of the authors of this initiative believes that the American president deserves it for the reconciliation of Israel and the United Arab Emirates, another – that he should be rewarded for the normalization of relations between Serbia and the partially recognized republic of Kosovo.
