The Syrian army said that Israel hit the Mediterranean port city of Tartus (Syria). One of the country's main military air bases used by Russia was also attacked.
Two Syrian soldiers were killed and six were injured as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the Mediterranean port city of Tartu.
This was reported by Reuters, citing Syrian media.
It is noted that the last strike was also carried out near a military base in southern Hamma, Shuairat military airport southeast of the central province of Homs. The base is one of the country's main air bases, which Russia has fortified and used to conduct raids against rebels.
The strikes were carried out near the only Mediterranean base of the Russian fleet in the port of Tartus, where Russian warships are stationed. In addition, the Russian Khmeimim airbase is also located nearby.
Israeli and regional military experts believe the strikes are part of an escalating low-intensity conflict aimed at slowing Iran's rise in Syria.
It is noted that Russian intervention on the side of Iran helped turn the tide of the war in favor of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict in the country that has lasted more than ten years.
Israel's position on the war in Ukraine
