The American THAAD system was deployed in Israel back in October.
The American THAAD missile defense system successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched at Israel from Yemen. This was the first use of this system by the Israeli military.
Reuters reports this.
The Israeli army said that the missile fired by the Houthis was intercepted by missile defense systems. However, the statement did not specify whether the THAAD system was used for this.
THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is a mobile ground-based anti-missile system for intercepting medium-range missiles at altitudes beyond the atmosphere.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the system uses the concept of kinetic interception, during which the target is destroyed due to the energy of the collision with the hardware unit, which increases its effectiveness, as compared to other systems, such as the Patriot air defense system.
