Over the past day, 6275 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Israel, this is the highest indicator in terms of the number of cases since February 8, according to data from the country's Ministry of Health. That this is a record since February is also reported by state radio Kan.
“This is the highest daily infection rate since February 2021 and a new anti-record since the delta strain appeared in the country in early summer,” the station said in a statement.
At the same time, on August 9, 2 patients with coronavirus died in the country, for the entire time of the pandemic – 6,559 people.
Mass vaccination in Israel began in December last year, using a drug from Pfizer for vaccination in the country. Now the first dose of vaccination was received by 5.8 million Israelis, the second – to 5.4 million, or approximately 63% and 58% of the population, respectively (in total, 9.3 million people live in the country). On July 30, they began vaccinating for the third time on citizens over 60 who had received a second dose of Pfizer at least five months ago. More than 577 thousand people have already passed this stage of vaccination.
Since June 1, all quarantine restrictions have been lifted in Israel, with the exception of the obligation to wear masks indoors. It was canceled on June 15, but reintroduced on June 25 due to an increase in the number of cases. Since August 20, only vaccinated, ill or those who have passed a negative PCR test for coronavirus were allowed to visit institutions and events, regardless of the number of participants, the Times of Israel reported.
