On the night of June 21, Israel, during air strikes on Iranian territory, killed two high-ranking military officials who were involved in supporting and financing the terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah.

The Guardian reports this, citing an Israeli military official.

He said the attack on an apartment in the central Iranian city of Qom killed Saeed Izadi, the head of the Palestinian Al-Quds Corps, the foreign branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Israeli military said Izadi played a key role in funding and arming Hamas ahead of its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, that killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians.

The official also said the strike killed Behnam Shahryari, another senior Quds Force official responsible for funding the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.

What is known about the conflict between Israel and Iran

The armed conflict in the Middle East began on June 13 after Israel launched a series of pre-dawn strikes on Iran in an operation that the Israelis said was aimed at preventing Iran from developing its own nuclear weapons.

Iran quickly responded with missile and drone attacks, beginning an escalation of mutual air strikes that have now entered a ninth day.

In Iran, Israeli strikes have killed at least 430 people and wounded 3,500 since the fighting began, state media reported. In Israel, Iranian strikes have killed at least 25 people and wounded hundreds.

Let us recall that on the night of June 21, Israel struck dozens of targets in Iran, including the nuclear facility in Isfahan.
