The IDF may be preparing for a ground operation in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israel< /strong> is preparing to evacuate the population of the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip in anticipation of a ground military operation.
Newsweek writes about this.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on April 30, during a meeting with the families of soldiers kidnapped and killed by Hamas militants, rejected the possibility of a ceasefire with Palestinian militants until key conditions were met.
“There is no question that we will stop the war without disbanding the four Hamas battalions in Rafah. We have begun evacuating the population in Rafah,” Netanyahu said.
However, the Commissioner General of the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, Philippe Lazzarini, objected that such evacuation continues.
Egyptian officials briefed on Israeli plans for an offensive on Rafah said on April 25 that the Israeli operation could begin in the coming days.
The previous Wednesday, April 24, Israeli army and internal security officials met with Egyptian officials in Cairo to coordinate efforts, including the evacuation of civilians to “humanitarian zones” in other parts of the Gaza Strip.
Recall that Israeli authorities stated that they were ready to reconsider their plans for a ground operation in the city of Rafah in the context of negotiations with Hamas on the release of hostages.
