Israel follows US in leaving UN Human Rights Council: What is the reason?

The Israeli Foreign Minister complained that the UN Human Rights Council demonizes his country and criticizes it more than Iran and North Korea.

Israel, following the United States, announced its withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council person.

This was announced by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.

The minister welcomed President Trump's decision not to participate in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). According to Saar, Israel is joining the United States and will not participate in the Human Rights Council.

In his opinion, the UN Human Rights Commission has traditionally protected human rights violators.

“Instead, we will get demonization of the only democracy in the Middle East – Israel. The UN Human Rights Council has focused on attacks against a democratic country and promotes anti-Semitism instead of promoting human rights,” complains Gideon Saar.

The minister claims that in the Human Rights Council, Israel is the only country to have a separate agenda item.

“Israel has been subjected to more than 100 sensible resolutions, more than 20% of all resolutions ever adopted by the Council – more than against Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela combined. Israel no longer tolerates such discrimination,” the Israeli Foreign Minister concluded.

Earlier, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets criticized the UN for the fact that the UN Commissioner for Human Rights' report ignores the disparate scale of violations in the treatment of prisoners of war by the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
