There is still some disagreement between the parties on how to implement this.
Israel and Hamas militants are ready to negotiate a new truce to free hostages held by terrorists.
This is reported by Reuters citing two Egyptian security sources.
“Hopes for peace were raised on Saturday when a source said that the head of Israeli intelligence spoke with the Qatari prime minister on Friday. Hamas insists on unilaterally determining the list of hostages to be released and demands that Israeli troops withdraw in advance a certain line, sources said,” the report notes.
The interlocutors said that Israel agreed with the proposal that the list be drawn up by representatives of Hamas, but wants to set a time frame and see the list of individuals so that the duration of the ceasefire can be determined. Israel is also against withdrawing its troops.
In turn, Hamas militants said that they would release the hostages only when a ceasefire was reached.
Israeli Army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said: “It is important for me to clearly state that the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) is determined to carry out the tasks of eliminating Hamas.”
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said: “We are open to any effort to stop Israeli aggression. This is the basis for any discussion.”
Publication sources report that Qatar and Egypt are demanding the opening of the Kerem Shalom checkpoint and the provision of humanitarian aid to Gazans before the start of negotiations.
In turn, an Israeli official said that aid was allowed to reach Gaza after Egyptian sources initially reported that it had been delayed.
On Sunday, the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza was opened for the first time to deliver humanitarian aid. It is reported that this will double the amount of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
“A day earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed open to negotiations, but promised to maintain intense military pressure,” the publication writes.
Recall that it was previously reported that for the first time during the war, Israel allowed passage to the Gaza Strip for the import of humanitarian aid.
In addition, we previously informed that as a result of an Israeli army strike in the Gaza Strip, an employee of the French consulate was killed.
