Israel accuses Iran of attacking its ship in the Gulf of Oman. This statement was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports The Times of Israel.
Netanyahu said he had no doubts that Iran was behind the attack. When asked about possible retaliatory measures, the politician called Iran “Israel's biggest enemy” and stressed that the Jewish state was striking Iranian positions throughout the region.
Netanyahu added that he assured US President Joe Biden that Israel would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. He stressed that this will not depend on whether a new nuclear agreement is reached between the United States, Iran and other powers.
An explosion on a cargo ship belonging to an Israeli company took place on 26 February. None of the crew members were injured. After the incident, the ship headed for the nearest port. Prior to that, at the end of November 2020, a Greek tanker was blown up off the coast of Saudi Arabia. The explosion occurred near the kingdom's border with Yemen in the Red Sea. Later, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that the explosion was caused by the attack of a mined boat, and the incident itself was recognized as a terrorist attack.
