The Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) claimed responsibility for the attack in the Austrian capital Vienna. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the statement of the agency close to the terrorists Amaq.

Reuters notes that the group did not provide any evidence of its involvement in the attack. At the same time, the message on Telegram is accompanied by a photograph of a bearded man who is called Abu Dagnah Al-Albany. He is said to have attacked people in the center of Vienna on 2 November with a pistol and a machine gun before being shot by the police.

Earlier, the American portal SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors the information activity of extremists, reported that jihadists had declared their involvement in a series of attacks in Vienna. It is indicated that the incident allegedly became “part of the bill” for the fact that Austria is part of the international coalition led by the United States to fight IS.

The shooting in the Austrian capital began on the evening of November 2: the first shots were fired at about 20:00 local time (22:00 Moscow time) at the synagogue in the city center. It was reported that almost simultaneously with this, several more people opened fire in other places. Later it became known that the security forces managed to shoot one of the attackers, while the others were being sought. At the same time, it has not yet been proven that the shooter did not act alone.

According to the press, the eliminated intruder is a 20-year-old native of Vienna, Curtin S. He has Albanian roots, although his parents are from North Macedonia. The Interior Ministry indicated that he had dual Macedonian-Austrian citizenship and was convicted of trying to join IS.

According to the latest data, four people were killed. At the same time, the media write about six dead.
