The Iranian sports shooter Javad Foroughi won the Olympic final with the air pistol by superiority. He shot in a league of its own: Before his last shot, the right-handed man even considered firing the pistol with his left.
After the award ceremony, Foroughi's failure caused a stir in Tokyo. The Iranian is a long-time member of the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) of the Islamist mullahs' regime, which is listed by the USA as a terrorist organization. Your foreign unit, the Quds Force, carries out terrorist attacks around the world.
What was Foroughi's role? According to the Iranian state media, he worked as a nurse in an IRGC hospital in Tehran. He is said to have taught himself to shoot in the basement of the hospital.
But there are doubts about that. In a TV interview at the beginning of May Foroughi also spoke about his time in Syria – there the Quds Force fought on the side of the dictator Assad. The Olympic champion said he had performed security duties, prepared for “counterattacks”.
Foroughi saluted at the award ceremony and then thanked revolutionary leader Khamenei.
