Benjamin Netanyahu said that after the end of the fighting in Gaza, Israel will be responsible for security in the strip.
Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , said the country is not planning a “prolonged occupation” of the Gaza Strip in its war with Hamas, but he will be responsible for security in the region.
CNN writes about this.
Regev also said there was a need to distinguish between “security presence and political control,” commenting on Netanyahu's comments that Israel would have “shared responsibility for security” in Gaza for an “indefinite period” after the end of the war.
“When this is all over and we defeat Hamas, it is very important that there is no resurgence of the terrorist element, a resurgence of Hamas. There is no point in doing this and just going back to square one. Israeli security forces must be present, but that does not mean Israel will occupy Gaza; does not mean that Israel will rule the people of Gaza,” he said.
According to him, Israel is “interested in creating a new framework where the people of Gaza can govern themselves, where there can be international support for the reconstruction of Gaza.”
Let us remind you that Israel answered who will control the Gaza Strip after the fighting ends.
