For China, the US market and Western technologies are of quite great interest, so Beijing will try to maintain moderate relations with the Western world, notes Natalya Plaksienko-Butyrskaya.
China is not ready to risk its interests and relations with the West for the sake of direct arms supplies to Russia.
This opinion was expressed by expert on East Asia Natalya Plaksienko-Butyrskaya on the air of “Espresso”.
“Today China is not ready to directly supply weapons to Russia. Because Beijing does not want to spoil relations with the US and the EU and this would mean that China has stepped over the red lines that were warned about. That is why Antony Blinken and the European leaders are talking about the inadmissibility of such a step on the part of China. Therefore, now this is a preventive conversation with China so that Beijing does not allow the supply of weapons to Russia,” explained Plaksienko-Butyrskaya.
The expert emphasized that China will not risk its own interests to help Russia.
“For China today, the US market and Western technologies are of quite great interest. Therefore, Beijing will try to maintain moderate relations with the Western world. Also, we should not forget about China’s own interests, which are also a deterrent to the direct supply of weapons Russia. Obviously, the whole world and China are also feeling the negative consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Therefore, the end of hostilities will be beneficial for everyone, but the open question remains on what conditions this should end,” she added.
Recall that the US and Chinese defense ministers discussed the Russian war in Ukraine.
