"Deputies" may initiate a new referendum on annexation by Russia.

Reintegration Bureau Moldova stated , which is closely monitoring the situation in the unrecognized Transnistria in the context of the congress of deputies planned for February 28, where they may turn to Russia with a request to “join.”

This is stated in the report of analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

“Dmitry Medvedev's mention of Russia's possible intentions to occupy Odessa may deserve attention against the backdrop of recent events in Transnistria. Recently, the Transnistrian authorities announced that the Congress of “Deputies” of Transnistria will meet on February 28,” analysts write.

ISW predicts that deputies may initiate a new referendum on annexation by Russia.

However, ISW sees no clear signs that the Russian military is preparing to intervene in Transnistria or Moldova in general.

“Russian military intervention would be difficult for Moscow, since Moldova and Transnistria are landlocked and accessible only through the territory of Romania or Ukraine,” the analysts added.

Remember:

The self-proclaimed authorities of Transnistria on February 28 are preparing a “congress of deputies of all levels” – the so-called parliament of Transnistria, as well as district, city, town and village councils, where they are preparing an appeal to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

One of the few representatives of the Transnistrian opposition, Gennady Chorba, believes that the congress should voice “a request to accept Transnistria into the Russian Federation, and on February 29, Putin will announce this in his address, and the Federal Assembly will quickly decide to satisfy this request.”
