A court in Iraqi Baghdad investigating the death of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of the al-Hashd al-Shaabi militia, has issued an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq.
“A judge in the Al-Rasaf court, authorized to investigate the murder of the deputy head of the militia (…), decided to issue an arrest warrant for US President Donald Trump based on the provisions of article 406 of the current Iraqi criminal code,” the agency quoted the press service as saying.
It is noted that in the case file there are videos in which Trump claims that he himself gave the order to strike.
On January 2, it was reported that the Iranian naval forces increased combat readiness in the Persian Gulf in preparation for the anniversary of the assassination of Soleimani. Earlier in December, the Pentagon fortified its Ain al-Assad military base in Iraq. Experts associate this not only with the anniversary of the assassination of the IRGC general, but also with the upcoming inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden.
In June last year, the Iranian authorities tried to arrest the US president in connection with this case. But Interpol denied them a request to arrest Trump.
Suleimani died in Iraqi Baghdad on January 3, 2020, in a missile attack from the United States. Together with the general, several officers accompanying him and al-Muhandis were killed. In response, Tehran fired dozens of missiles at American targets in Iraq on the night of January 8. The operation that took place was named “Martyr of Suleimani”. The United States declared no casualties and minimal damage to military bases.
