Iran has revealed a possible way of revenge for the murder of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. Iranian political scientist Ali Akbar Raefipur told Lenta.ru correspondent Khayal Muazzin about this.
“State terrorism in order to stop the development of nuclear science and technology is a clear violation of international law, the strategic response to which is the natural and inalienable right of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the expert said. He suggested that the United States and Israel were behind the murder.
According to Ali Akbar Raefipur, Tehran's likely response to the incident will be to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with the United States – the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA). The political scientist also suggested that Israel and the United States organized the assassination of Fakhrizade, because they wanted to thwart Iran's plans to develop its nuclear potential.
On November 27 it became known that Fakhrizade was a victim of terrorists. At the scene of the attack, a suicide bomber was first blown up, and then the car, where the scientist and his guards were, was fired upon. The deputy head of the military department died in hospital from severe injuries.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani blamed Israel for the incident. US intelligence officials linked the assassination of a nuclear physicist to the plans of US presidential candidate Joe Biden to restore relations with Tehran and sign a new agreement on the nuclear program.
In 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA, which concerned Iran's nuclear program, and imposed sanctions on Tehran. Trump called on the guarantor countries of the nuclear deal with Iran to abandon the further support of the current agreement.
