The Iranian authorities have registered the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine and prepared to produce it on their territory with the participation of Russia. This was stated by the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Mohammad Javad Zarif at a press conference after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“I would like to inform you that the Sputnik V vaccine was registered in Iran yesterday. It was approved by our sanitary authorities, and in the near future, we hope, we will be able to purchase it, as well as start joint production (with the participation) of the relevant institutions in Russia and Iran, ”the agency quoted the diplomat as saying.

In December 2020, the United States agreed to unblock Iran's assets for the purchase of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdulnasser Hemmati, the Americans themselves imposed sanctions on all banks in the country.

However, later, the supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, said that the import of drugs into the country was prohibited. Now Iran is independently developing vaccines against coronavirus.
