Iran said the US had attacked “peaceful nuclear facilities” and violated the UN Charter.

US Attacks Three Nuclear Facilities in Iran

The Trump administration expects Iran to retaliate for the strikes on its nuclear facilities. Answers are expected within the next 48 hours.

NBC News reports this.

Trump is preparing for a potential response from Iran, a particular concern, according to two defense officials and a senior White House official.

The publication's sources note that it remains unclear whether any retaliatory measures will be directed at foreign or domestic targets.

Meanwhile, Iran's permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravan, called the US strikes on nuclear facilities “deliberate aggression” against the country and called on the UN Security Council to immediately convene an emergency meeting due to Washington's “wild and criminal actions.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns in the strongest possible terms these unprovoked and deliberate acts of aggression. Undoubtedly, the US military aggression against its sovereignty and territorial integrity is a clear and flagrant violation of international law and the imperative international norms enshrined in the UN Charter,” the Iranian envoy said in a letter released after the attack.

What came before

On the night of June 22, Donald Trump announced airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran. According to him, the US military struck facilities in Fordow and Natanga, where uranium enrichment plants are located, as well as in Isfahan, where uranium conversion plants and centrifuge production are located.

Trump said the goal of the US strikes was to “destroy Iran's uranium enrichment capability and stop the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terrorism.”

According to media reports, the US carried out airstrikes on Iran using American B-2 bombers. CNN sources also reported that the US used GBU-57 guided bunker buster bombs to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. They were designed to destroy targets located deep underground and weigh 13.6 tons.

The bomb is the largest non-nuclear weapon in the U.S. arsenal, and is the first known use of such a bomb in a military operation.
