It is possible that Fordow was prepared for an attack – the uranium was removed and the staff was reduced.
Iran may have removed the bulk of its highly enriched uranium from the underground nuclear facility at Fordow in advance of the US strike.
This was reported by Reuters, citing sources among Iranian officials.
They said that before the US attack, most of the uranium had been removed from the Fordow facility and the staff at the site had been reduced to a minimum, likely as a precaution.
Fordow is one of Iran's key nuclear sites, second only to Natanz. The two sites have been targeted by U.S. strikes, indicating a growing standoff over Iran's nuclear program.
These actions may indicate Tehran's intentions to secure its resources amid growing tensions with Washington and increased US activity in the region.
Recall that US President Donald Trump announced the complete destruction of three strategic targets and threatened Iran with even more powerful strikes in the event of further resistance.
He said the aim of the strikes was to completely destroy Iran's uranium enrichment program and end the nuclear threat from what he called “the world's number one state sponsor of terrorism.”
The US dropped six penetrating bombs on the Fordow nuclear facility . It also launched 30 Tomahawk missiles at the Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites. Before the attack, the US communicated with Iran to convey that it was only planning strikes and did not intend to change the government in Tehran.
Iran attacked Israel missiles in response to the US night strike on nuclear facilities.
