The second round of the presidential elections in Iran took place with a historically low turnout.

In Iran in the second round of the presidential elections held on July 5, Masoud Pezeshkian won, promising to “open the country to the world and ensure freedom.” The second round took place with an absolutely low turnout – more than 60% of citizens abstained from voting.

“Having received the majority of votes on Friday, Pezeshkian became the next president of Iran,” the media write.

In Iran, they were choosing a successor to the late President Ibrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter accident that occurred in May.

However, the new Iranian president will have limited opportunities to influence government policy. After all, the real chairman is the spiritual leader – since 1989, Ali Khamenei. It is he who determines the state policy strategy, and the president deals with tactics for achieving strategic goals.

Masud Pezeshkiyan advocated dialogue with the West and promised to seek friendly relations. He stated that his administration would immediately work to try to lift Western sanctions and restore the economy.

“Dear people of Iran, the elections are over and this is just the beginning of our partnership. A difficult road lies ahead, but with your support, compassion and trust, I extend my hand to you and swear on my honor that I will not abandon you along this path “, wrote Masoud Pezeshkian on the social network X.
