Iran's armed forces have confirmed a strike on a US military base in Qatar.
Iran fired 6 missiles at the US Al Udeid air base in Qatar.
This was reported by the publication Axios.
Al Udeid is the largest US military base in the Middle East.
“The number of missiles used in this successful operation was the same as the number of bombs used by the US in the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities,” the Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said in a statement carried by IRNA.
Iran fired 10 missiles at US bases in Qatar and one at a US base in Iraq, Ynet reported. Military sources told Reuters that the air defense system at Ain al-Asad air base in Iraq was activated.
According to Clash Report, Iran announced the attacks on the Qatari bases in advance to minimize losses. The media suggests that the base was virtually empty.
Trump's reaction
According to CNN, the US is tracking several missiles fired from Iran towards US military facilities in Qatar and Iraq.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kaine are in the White House Situation Room, a White House spokesman said.
Sky News clarifies that Donald Trump is also now in the situation room with his team and is deciding how to respond to Tehran's brazen strikes.
Qatar's reaction
Qatar's Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted a missile strike aimed at Al Udeid Air Base, adding that no one was killed or injured in the attack.
Qatar also threatened to reserve the right to respond to an attack by Iran.
“Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner that is equivalent to the nature and scale of this brazen aggression, in accordance with international law,” said the country's foreign minister's spokesman Majed al-Ansari.
He called for “an immediate end to all military action and a return to the negotiating table and dialogue.”
Earlier it was reported that the UK Foreign Office advised citizens not to travel to the UAE and Qatar amid expectations of an Iranian strike. It also became known that Qatar closed its airspace as a precautionary measure due to threats from Iran.
Let us recall that Donald Trump announced that on the night of June 22, the United States military attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran – in Fordow, Natan and Isfahan.
