Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzade commented on the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the US elections and assessed the possibility of negotiations with him. The minister's commentary is quoted by the Al-Alam TV channel.
Khatibzadeh said that returning to dialogue will not be easy, and practical steps from the opposite side are important for Iran.
“Washington has violated the nuclear agreement and cannot impose conditions on us, as it caused billions of dollars in damage to the Iranian people,” said a Foreign Ministry spokesman, stressing that the United States must end the economic war.
In September of this year, the United States imposed new sanctions against Iran. This measure was condemned by the UN, the Russian side called the restrictions criminal.
In 2018, the United States reinstated sanctions against Iran in full, and also withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), which limits Iran's nuclear development. Washington called it a response to the “export of violence, terror and disorder.”
On November 7, Democratic candidate Joe Biden won 290 against the required 270 electoral votes. Having secured his victory, Biden proclaimed himself the president-elect of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that the elections are not officially over yet, and the results will be appealed in court.
