Apple may temporarily shut down iPhone production. This was reported in a report by the Nikkei agency.
The shortage of smartphones of the American brand, which analysts predict, is associated with the closure of the Samsung plant in Texas. The company manufactures chips for various devices, and the specific production of a Korean corporation in the United States accounts for about five percent of the world's supply of chips for smartphones and personal computers. The organization suspended operations due to abnormal cold and winter storms in the region, in connection with which the plant faced a shortage of electricity.
The Texas plant also supplies chips for OLED panels that Apple purchases for its iPhones, sources said. Qualcomm is also called one of the major customers. “The supply constraint that has hit Qualcomm will affect a wide range of smartphone manufacturers who purchase key components from the company for their gadgets,” the experts said.
The report does not specify which models of Apple smartphones may be temporarily discontinued. It is also unknown how long the production lines of the Samsung plant will be inactive.
Reporters recalled that due to the global health crisis in 2020, Apple was forced to stop assembling smartphones in China. Because of this, a new series of devices – the iPhone 12 – was released on sale with a delay. However, reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that this year the iPhone will be released on time, as Apple is ready for force majeure.
Earlier, the closure of the Samsung plant in Texas and the future shortage of smartphones of the Korean company were reported by Reuters sources. The shortage is also associated with a shortage of components for the production of phones, caused by a sharp increase in production in the smartphone market.
