Thinner chips will allow Apple to increase the size of the battery in iPhones and other devices without sacrificing their size.
Supply chain sources said Apple intends to expand the use of the technology it has previously patented. The technology is called Integrated Passive Device (IPD). The production of chips with its help will expand the capabilities of the company's partners – TSMC and Amkor.
Peripheral chips for iPhone, iPad and MacBook will get thinner, offering better performance. This will leave more room for larger batteries.
IPD may become part of TSMC's technology for the production of 3nm processors. And such chipsets are expected in the 2023 iPhone.
Of course, one cannot be sure that Apple will take advantage of compact microcircuits precisely for the sake of increasing the batteries. Instead, the company can simply make the devices even thinner.
