Continued: IOC Declares Respect for US Decision on Diplomatic Boycott of Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) commented on the US decision to declare a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Their statement is quoted by Match TV.

The organization stressed that the presence of officials and diplomats is a purely political decision of each government, and the IOC, being politically neutral, recognizes this right. The committee approved that the participation of American athletes in the Olympics remains outside of politics.

On December 6, the press secretary of the President of the United States Jen Psaki confirmed that the American leadership will not go to the Olympics in China. According to her, American athletes themselves will be able to decide whether to participate in international competitions or refuse them.

The Olympic Games will be held in Beijing from 4 to 20 February 2022, the Paralympic Games from 4 to 13 March. Only residents of mainland China will be able to buy tickets for the competition.
