Danish inventor Peter Madsen, sentenced to life in prison for murder, sexual assault and dismemberment of Swedish journalist Kim Vall, tried to escape from prison. Writes about this Sky News.
He was held in a Danish prison in the metropolitan suburb of Albertslund. During the escape, Madsen threatened to detonate a bomb, in addition, he threatened the guards with an object resembling a pistol.
A police operation is underway in the area. It is noted that earlier the inventor was isolated due to suspicions of trying to escape.
Kim Vall went missing on August 10, 2017. She wanted to make a report on Madsen's design activities and went with him to sea on the homemade submarine “Nautilus”. The next day, the ship sent a distress signal. When rescuers found the boat, only Madsen was on it. In October of the same year, the Danish police found the girl's head and legs wrapped in plastic bags. They also contained heavy pieces of metal.
During the investigation, Madsen changed his testimony several times and eventually admitted that he dismembered Vall's body and threw it into the water. He calls her death an accident: she allegedly was poisoned by carbon monoxide. However, psychiatric experts considered the inventor a pathological liar, posing a danger to others. In September 2020, Madsen confessed to what he had done.
