Intuit Confirms $ 12 Billion Purchase of Mailchimp

by alex

American financial software developer Intuit has reached an agreement with Mailchimp, an e-mail service, according to a buyer's press release. Mailchimp will be acquired for $ 12 billion.

Intuit is looking to promote Mailchimp with its QuickBooks accounting service to “help small and medium-sized businesses get them online,” Intuit CEO Sasan Gudarzi said in a statement.

Mailchimp has never attracted outside funding, and its purchase was the largest of its kind, Axios said. Previously, the record in this category belonged to the video game company Mojang, which was bought by Microsoft for $ 2.5 billion.

Mailchimp was owned by its founders Ben Chestnut and Mark Armstrong at the time of the deal and was formed in 2001. Intuit was founded in 1983 and its flagship product is TurboTax, a tax filing program for US residents.
