The country's Foreign Ministry emphasized that Lithuania is a security provider in the region.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that Vilnius is ready to discuss the issue of introducing Lithuanian troops into Ukraine if Kyiv makes such a request to Western countries.
He said this in an interview with the Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.
The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry noted that in this case, Lithuania will consider this issue with allies, partners and Ukraine to determine how this should look.
“Let me remind you that after the Paris summit, when President Macron invited the President of Lithuania, among other things, to discuss the initiative to expand military involvement in Ukraine in various forms, Lithuania did not rule out such a possibility,” Budrys noted.
He emphasized that Lithuania is a security provider in the region, contributing not only through diplomacy, but also through other funds.
“We must also now talk about how this will look, based on a very clear and specific position, which is also being conveyed to the new US administration, that Lithuania is a security provider in the region, and not just a recipient. If the question arises, I have no doubt that the Lithuanian flag will be there,” the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.
Recall that earlier the Lithuanian politician was suspected of spying for the Russian Federation.
