International flights resumed in Kazakhstan: how Ukrainians leave an agitated country

Air Astana provides free rebooking of tickets for new flights from Nur-Sultan or Almaty.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine continues to provide consular assistance to Ukrainians in Kazakhstan who, due to mass protests in the country, were unable to return home on time.

This was announced by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.

In particular, by agreement with the Ukrainian embassy, Air Astana provides free rebooking of tickets for Ukrainian citizens for new flights from Nur-Sultan or Almaty.

Almaty International Airport, which was smashed by protesters, has already resumed serving civilian aircraft on domestic flights to Nur-Sultan and Bishkek. In the near future, the schedule for the resumption of international flights, in particular, to Ukraine, is expected to be announced.

“Diplomats and the air carrier are working on the earliest possible resumption of Almaty-Kyiv flights,” Oleg Nikolenko stressed.

Currently, the Ukrainian embassy provides a meeting for citizens who arrive by rail in Nur-Sultan for onward flight to Ukraine, helps them with temporary residence and boarding flights.

The consular department also applied to the competent authorities of Kazakhstan to issue exit visas to Ukrainians who, due to the events, exceeded the 90-day visa-free stay in the country.

Recall that a group of Ukrainians is “stuck” in a country engulfed in protests, most of our citizens are in Almaty.
