In Russia it was proposed to rename the Sakhalin region to the Russian Islands. With such a proposal, the head of the socialist party “A Just Russia – For the Truth” Sergei Mironov appealed to the authorities of the region.

“The faction sent the governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limorenko and to the head of the regional assembly, a proposal to initiate an amendment to the Constitution, this is the right of the subject to change the name. We propose to call the Sakhalin Region the Russian Islands,” he told reporters.
Earlier, such an initiative was supported by the general director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, and a spokesman President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
Recall, Russia refused to negotiate with Japan over the southern Kuril Islands.
