The social network Instagram has announced a new ability to filter private messages containing offensive language, words and emojis. Users will be able to add their own words, which will be taken into account when filtering. The feature will be available in several countries in the coming weeks, and Instagram plans to expand its geography in the coming months.
The new feature is primarily aimed at celebrities and public people who receive a lot of private messages. When enabled, all messages with offensive content will be placed in a separate folder and automatically hidden. The user can click on the message and view it, as well as report it. Instagram said it is working with anti-discrimination and bullying organizations to compile a comprehensive list of words that could be called offensive.
Instagram previously said it would permanently block the accounts of users who send a lot of offensive messages. The company also banned adult users from writing to teenagers who are not subscribed to them.
