Instagram in the next update has increased the duration of videos in the main feed to 60 minutes. Previously, it was possible to publish videos up to 1 minute in length, and anything longer was available only through the IGTV service. Now this service will undergo a rebranding, The Verge learned. In the summer, the head of Instagram announced that the social network was no longer just a photo-sharing application.
According to the publication, Instagram will rename IGTV to Instagram TV. The application will combine videos of different formats that will be displayed in one tab on the user's profile page, said a company representative. The new section is intended primarily for users who only log into Instagram to watch videos.
IGTV was launched in 2018 to compete with YouTube, but it hasn't gained much popularity over the years.
In the summer of 2021, Instagram and Facebook launched Reels, a short video creation service on their platforms. Since June, he has started working in Russia. The social network then announced that it would share ad revenue with content creators for IGTV.
Later, Instagram announced plans to change its strategy and develop its own video direction: entertainment, and widescreen. Head of the company Adam Mosseri said: “We are no longer an app for sharing photos or square images.” Users were promised new features, after the implementation of which Instagram will become the main competitor of TikTok and YouTube.
