Injury shock for ski ace before the start of the season

Wendy Holdener

Bitter news from Switzerland before the start of the season: Wendy Holdener is injured on both hands and misses the start of the season in Sölden.

How bitter is that? The Swiss ski star was injured shortly before the start of the season in Sölden. The 28-year-old suffered fractures of the navicular bone in both hands when she fell from an exercise machine. Now Holdener has to take a break of several weeks. An operation is not necessary. The Swiss Association announced this in a broadcast.

Exactly how long it will be out is not clear. “Thanks to immediate clarification and the best possible medical care, the athlete from Unteriberg will be able to ski freely again in just under a month,” says Swiss Ski. Means: Despite a break of several weeks, a start in Levi could already be possible again. This is then decided on the basis of x-ray controls during the rehabilitation process.

Swiss-Ski team doctor Walter O. Frey says: “The two broken scaphoid bones on the wrists must be completely healed before racing is possible, as today's technology, especially in slalom, exposes the wrist to great forces.”
