You drive halfway around the world, take a lot of hardship and accept the strict, sometimes bizarre corona safety regulations of the Chinese authorities, and then something like that: Katrin Beierl injured herself during the three-week training camp on the Olympic track in Yanqing, where is currently the bobsleigh and skeleton stars from all over the world have come together to test the ice channel.

The Austrian bobsleigh pilot, who sensationally won the overall World Cup together with Jennifer Onasanya last winter, tore a muscle fiber during strength training. Normally it would be nice to take it easy now, but there is no time for that in distant China.

Because for Beierl, as for her competitors, every single test run on the new Olympic track is valuable and she needs experience with regard to the Winter Games, the Lower Austrian gets into the bobsleigh and whizzes through the ice channel. However, as a precaution, she refrains from the starting maneuver and sits down in the sled beforehand.

The three-week training course in Yanqing will end for the athletes in the coming week. Most athletes are now exhausted from the intensive units and long for a change in the air. During their time in China, they were practically only allowed to stay in the hotel complex and on the train due to the corona regulations.
