The reasons for the acceleration of inflation are the imbalance of supply and demand against the background of the pandemic.

In the US in January, inflation reached its highest level in four decades, accelerating to 7.5% per annum. The last time such an indicator was in February 1982.

This is reported by the American edition of The Wall Street Journal, citing data from the Department of Labor.

According to the newspaper, the reason for the acceleration of inflation is the imbalance of supply and demand against the background of the pandemic. At the same time, most economists expect price increases to ease as business adjusts and demand normalizes.

It is noted that the prices of cars, furniture and household appliances, as well as other durable goods have increased significantly. Meat, eggs and citrus fruits also added to the price.

Recall that in the first month of 2022, inflation in Ukraine accelerated. In January, it rose to 1.3% compared to December last year. Food and non-alcoholic beverages have risen in price the most.
