Indian strain of coronavirus with double mutation identified in the United States
The Indian variant of the coronavirus with a double mutation was first discovered in the United States, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to the newspaper, a case of infection with this virus strain was recorded the day before in the San Francisco Bay area. This fact was confirmed by specialists from the Stanford Laboratory of Clinical Virology.
The head of the center, Benjamin Pinski, also noted that seven more suspected cases of infection with the Indian variant of the coronavirus are currently being tested. According to him, the results of the study will be known within a week.
According to experts, the so-called “double mutant”, previously discovered in India, has a double mutation, but it is not yet known whether it is more infectious or resistant to vaccines.
Recall that earlier in the United States, the first cases of the so-called “eternal” infection with COVID-19 were also recorded. Researchers from Southern California have found that in the bodies of three patients suffering from leukemia, traces of the virus have been preserved for six months.
